The coast of Southeast Alaska is home to a thousand islands, endless waterways, and very few roads – a destination that is best explored by sea. The “C/V Adventurous,” a mothership that calls these waters home, is a 56-foot vessel designed and built specifically for fishing this area. This mobile fishing platform gives you the opportunity to leave behind crowded fishing grounds as you embark on five day live-aboard excursions. The Adventurous provides access to remote and untouched fishing opportunities for all five species of salmon, halibut, a plethora of bottom fish species, and – most importantly – trophy steelhead. The ship features three staterooms (each with double beds), a main salon, and a full kitchen. With all of the luxuries of home, a professional crew, and gourmet meals, guests will experience a lot more than a standard Alaskan "fishing trip."
Standard trips start on Sunday and end the following Friday. Spring steelhead trips begin on Saturday and end on Friday. Trips include five nights on board the Adventurous for standard trips, and six nights on board for steelhead trips.
Alaska Charter Service and the crew of the Adventurous believe the best experiences happen when you share them with friends and family. That means that your group of six family and/or friends will have exclusive use of the Adventurous. The boat features three guest cabins (each sleeping two guests), two baths, a comfortable salon to relax in, and a full kitchen to provide filling meals. The Adventurous is 56 feet long and has a beam of 17 feet. She was constructed in 1993 at Delta Marine in Seattle. She's a sturdy, well-built vessel that cruises the Southeast Alaska waters like she was built for it - which in fact she was!
The amenities on board the Adventurous include the following:
* Three double guest staterooms with double bunks
* Crew quarters
* Two restrooms: One full with shower, and one a half-bath
* Comfortable salon with 6-person dining room table
* Full galley
* Full stereo system
* Water system providing up to 1500 gallons of purified freshwater a day.
* Two, ten cubic foot freezers
* Full hydraulics including shrimp pot puller and a boom for launching skiffs
* Full navigation and communication electronics
* Satellite telephone
* Live well for fresh crabs
* 110 volt power throughout the yacht (24 hours a day)
* 2400 gallon fuel capacity supplying ample range for exploring the region
Enjoying meals with friends and family aboard the Adventurous is one of the high points of any trip. With a dining room table surrounded by an ever-changing view, guests can expect to experience the entire spectrum of Alaskan cuisine. "Fresh seafood at its best" describes the meals aboard the Adventurous. With access to some of the finest and freshest fish and shellfish in Alaska, meals commonly center on the "catch of the day." Days begin with a satisfying breakfast, a midday break with a delicious lunch, happy hour post-fishing with fresh appetizers, and an out-of-this-world dinner. The onboard chef will work with each group to ensure that everyone's expectations are met.
Southeast Alaska is home to one of the most fertile maritime environments on the planet. All five species of salmon, steelhead, halibut and a plethora of bottom fish abound in these waters. Leaving behind crowded fishing grounds on five day “live aboard” excursions, guests aboard the Adventurous will have access to the most remote and untouched fishing opportunities in all of Southeast Alaska.
Encompassing tens of thousands of miles of coastline, thousands of Islands and hundreds of rivers and streams, Southeast Alaska is a stream fishing paradise. Whether in pursuit of steelhead or salmon, the Adventurous gives you access to some of the most remote fishing opportunities in all of Alaska. Catering to both fly fisherman and light tackle enthusiasts, Alaska Charter Service has invested over 12 years in the exploration and pursuit of the top stream fisheries of the inside passage. Utilizing the Adventurous both as a luxurious "base camp" and a vehicle to gain access to remote river mouths and streams, guests have the option of fishing different areas every day. When targeting steelhead on the streams of Southeast Alaska, guests will access the shoreline and miles of rivers using a custom-built jet boat to sight-fish, wade, and explore some of the wildest streams in Alaska. Steelhead fishing from the Adventurous is ideal for the fly fisherman looking for true adventure.
For your safety, the Adventurous is well equipped with survival suits for the crew and every guest onboard. Additionally, the Adventurous is equipped with a life raft and emergency locator transmitter. Anglers access the shoreline and miles of rivers using a 14-foot Svenson-built aluminum Jet boat with a 45hp jet outboard and a 14 foot fiberglass skiff with a 15hp outboard. Guests have access to a full range of equipment and tackle from Sage, Winston, Islander, Penn and Chaos. It is recommended that guests bring their own waders, boots, rain gear, rods and reels.
** Alaska is now enforcing a ban on felt-soled wading boots to help prevent the spread of potential waterborne parasites and diseases. Please keep this in mind while planning for your trip.
The complete customization of each cruise makes this operation very unique, and each and every trip is different. Each trip will be planned and based around the kinds of things you like to do, and in this area, there are many, many choices. The service you get is above and beyond what most charters provide or are even capable of. Nature and wildlife abound in this pristine paradise. From Orca whales to Alaska brown bears, there are few places on earth that have the abundance of wildlife found in the Southeastern Alaska wilderness. The Adventurous crew has a vast knowledge of the nature and wildlife in this area and will share that as you cruise the Inside Passage.
Five flights a day to Sitka connect through Seattle International Airport. Most guests joining the Adventurous arrive in Sitka via Alaska Airlines from Seattle the Saturday before the trip officially starts.
You will be met at the airport in Sitka by an Adventurous crew member and transferred to a local hotel. The first night in Sitka will allow you time to rest, dine, and tour Sitka before the trip starts on Sunday. On Sunday morning you will be met and transferred to the Adventurous where you will be introduced to the rest of the crew, tour the ship, and depart Sitka. The Adventurous almost always leaves from Sitka (but not always in the same direction.) Where the boat goes will usually depend on several things, most importantly - "What you want to do!"
Cost is $3,995.00 per person with a maximum of six (6) guests per cruise. We typically do not mix and match guests, which means that the Adventurous will be completely reserved for you and your friends. Please call Yellow Dog for more details.
* Remember that Yellow Dog's services are completely free! When you book a trip with Yellow Dog, you never pay more than when you book directly with the lodge or outfitter.

Each cruise aboard the Adventurous is completely customized, so there is no set itinerary.
Saturday - Most guests joining the Adventurous arrive in Sitka via Alaska Airlines from Seattle the Saturday before the trip begins. All guests will be met at the airport in Sitka by an Adventurous crew person and transferred to a local hotel.
Sunday - On this morning guests will be met and transferred to the Adventurous. Once breakfast is complete it's time to get underway. After a short cruise through the picturesque Sitka harbor, the adventure begins. Leaving Sitka behind, the first morning will normally take the boat through winding channels to nearby fishing grounds. Here you will have the chance to wet a line. Late in the afternoon of the first day, you will once again navigate through the islands and passages of Southeast Alaska. The afternoon and evening will be occupied by setting the first string of shrimp gear and/or crab pots. With the "gear" in the water it's off to one of a thousand secluded anchorages, to enjoy a fabulous meal, discuss the experiences of the day, and think about tomorrow's options.
Monday through Wednesday - Each day begins with an early breakfast before beginning the day's activities. First it's time to check the shrimp or crab gear. Using the on-board hydraulic puller makes it easy. Once the gear is stored, the boat will pull anchor and get underway, allowing you to fish and sightsee your way through Southeast Alaska. Each evening finds the Adventurous in a different remote anchorage where the mountains meet the sky and the wilds of Alaska are just outside the window. Without a set itinerary, each day can include many different activities such as stream fishing, saltwater fishing, cruising, beach combing, whale watching, and more.
Thursday - On the fifth day you will fish, cruise, and sightsee your way back to port, arriving in late afternoon at the Sitka marina. Enjoy a final delicious meal with the Adventurous safely moored in the harbor and stay onboard for your final night in Alaska.
Friday - With bags packed and the fresh seafood boxed, you will be transferred to the airport by Adventurous crew members to meet your flight home.
