Accommodations and Lodging

Caribbean CuisineThis small, intimate fishing and dive lodge is set amidst picturesque coconut groves at the end of a very long road. The Yucatan jungle, rich with wildlife, is the lodge's back yard, and the Caribbean Sea is literally on the front steps. At Costa de Cocos, your overall comfort is the priority, and the owners and staff know the value of fantastic customer service.

Guests stay in one of 16 individual private cabanas, all of which are built with traditional stonework, rich tropical woods, and native thatched roofs. Each cabana has a private bathroom with hot water, dual ceiling fans, 110 AC voltage outlets, and daily maid service. Aside from great amenities, our clients also appreciate the lodge's dedicated and impressive environmental conscience. With regards to power, all of the lodge's 24-hour electrical power is generated by the wind.

Food and Beverages

After a long day of fishing, you can relax on the lodge’s main deck, enjoying a cold drink and fresh appetizers from the kitchen. The lodge's fully-stocked and all-inclusive bar is always open, and ice-cold cervezas are available anytime. A full continental breakfast is served every morning, and the restaurant stays open for lunch for those that wish to return to lodge mid-day for an afternoon break and siesta. For anglers, the lodge will pack a full cooler lunch with plenty of food, beverages and ice! Dinners at the lodge are four-course meals with a Caribbean and Mexican touch. Costa De Cocos provides purified bottled water in each cabana for drinking.

Fishing Information

Costa de Cocos PermitOver the past sixteen years, Costa De Cocos has discovered and pioneered a vast network of largely unexplored and unfished bonefish, tarpon, and permit flats in Chetumal Bay and in the area's mangrove-ringed inland lagoons.
They've also developed an ocean-side fishery in areas with more permit and bonefish on deeper turtle grass flats. More than 30 very large, productive flats and lagoon systems have now been mapped, with new areas continuing to be explored.

Like many of the bodies of water in this part of Mexico, Chetumal Bay offers fantastic diversity with regards to species. Within 100 yards of a single shoreline flat one has the opportunity to cast at bonefish, permit and tarpon. The numerous natural channels throughout the bay provide textbook habitat for numerous species. During certain times of the year the snook leave their mangrove sanctuaries to warm up on the flats and feed, giving anglers prime opportunities to target the "largemouth of the flats." This is truly "super-slam" territory!

The biggest thing that C.D.C. offers is an excellent fishery for all skill levels, from the novice angler looking to cut their teeth on bonefish to the serious angler searching for shots at 25-pound-plus permit. On calm days, the oceanside flats and drop-offs can provide excellent sight fishing opportunities for schools of permit and large, migratory tarpon. If the wind does become a problem, the lagoons behind Xcalak provide shelter as well as productive fishing for baby tarpon and snook. In addition to fishing from the 23 foot pangas, Chetumal also offers some of the best wade fishing in the Yucatan.

Boats and Equipment

All boats used by the lodge are 23-foot pangas that accommodate two fishermen and a guide. Each is constructed with a forward casting deck, tandem passenger seats, and rod racks. While a limited number of loaner rods may be available, it is recommended that anglers bring their own rods, reels, flats boots, flies, and all terminal tackle.

Non-Angling Activities and Options

Mayan RuinsAlthough Costa De Cocos is typically frequented by anglers and is definitely a fishing-focused operation, non-anglers and eco-tour vacationers will feel right at home at the lodge. Non-anglers can plan a different adventure every day, from exploring Mayan ruins to beachcombing, kayaking in secluded lagoons, snorkeling the reef, local diving, or take an excursion to Bird Island, where tropical and migratory birds are abundant. A day trip to San Pedro, Belize for shopping and exploring can also be arranged. Relaxing on the beach and doing absolutely nothing at all is also an option at the lodge! You can simply sit back, relax, and gaze at the transparent turquoise waters, lounging in a hammock while sipping a cool, refreshing tropical drink. The lodge is close to the small fishing village of Xcalak. You can easily walk into town and visit the small cantinas and restaurants.
