FRA Arkansas River Mothers Day Caddis Hatch Fly Selection

FRA Arkansas River Mothers Day Caddis Hatch Fly Selection

In April, Colorado anglers start thinking about the Mother’s Day Hatch on the Arkansas River. This same hatch occurs throughout the west on rivers like the Yakima, Big Hole, Yellowstone and hundreds of others. Here in Colorado the caddis (Brachycentrus) hatch when the water temperature reaches about 50 degrees. It begins in the Cañon City area around April 15 and gradually moves upstream past Salida until runoff blows it away, usually around midMay.

The flies are as follows and are delivered in a custom Front Range Anglers fly box:

Swing Caddis
Puterbaugh's Foam Caddis
Bishop's Dynamite
Graphic Caddis
Tung Electric Caddis
Electric Caddis
