If you are heading to the resort mecca of Cancun for work or play and would like to schedule a quick and easy day of fly fishing, then consider a day trip to the Isla Blanca area. The productive Isla Blanca flats, located just 45 minutes from downtown Cancun, are easily accessed from anywhere in the city, and we work with an outfitter that has been guiding this area for more than 12 years. Baby tarpon and snook can be found year-round in these waters, as well as additional species such as barracuda, snappers, jacks, and ladyfish. Bonefish and permit are occasionally found, especially during the months of May through August. Anglers fish from a custom 18-foot panga, and lunch, all beverages, a professional guide, all flies, equipment, and transportation to and from your hotel is included.
Any number of day trips canbe booked through Yellow Dog. Most guests that book the day trips already have their hotel and resort accommodations. that said, Yellow Dog is more than happy to assist with lodging and hotels for your package.
Under the day trip program, accommodations are at the hotel or area resort of your choice. If you would like to incorporate an overnight excursion further south to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve and the Ascension Bay area, we can accommodate you at Pesca Maya Lodge. Pesca Maya first opened its doors in January of 1996 and has since then established itself as one of the Yucatan's most popular fishing destinations. The lodge is located 90 miles south of Cancun on a long, narrow strip of barrier beach that is virtually surrounded by water. Packages that start at one night with two days of fishing are available. For more information on the accommodations at Pesca Maya, please visit the Pesca Maya home page on the Yellow Dog website.
A packed cooler lunch is included with your day trip. Food, all non-alcoholic beverages, bottles water and ice are all included in your day trip.
Baby tarpon and snook can be found year round in the Cancun and Isla Blanca area. It is a great place to fish for tarpon. If you're looking for bonefish, the summer months are the most productive, although there is generally not a large abundance of bonefish in this particular area. For those who are after permit, Isla Blanca is a great option, with large numbers of fish showing up in May through August.
Throughout this immediate area you can also find barracuda, snappers, jacks, sea trout and ladyfish. The chances of getting a Grand Slam or Super Slam are always possible, as the area is hardly fished and a lot of the water is so shallow that commercial fishing boats can not enter the area.
Guides use custom 18ft. Pangas with 40hp Yamaha four-stroke engines which will make the required runs with little effort. Also, these Pangas can be poled in less than ten inches of water, meaning that there are few places that cannot be accessed and fished!
A guide has a much better view when poling from a platform rather than from the back of the boat, so all boats have a poling platform.
For non-anglers, the Cancun and Playa del Carmen area has everything that Mexican mega-resort can possibly offer. Shopping, nightlife, water skiing, wakeboarding, parasailing, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, wildlife and bird viewing, sunbathing, numerous nightclubs, and more. The list is truly endless.
All guests should book flights to Cancun, Mexico (CUN), an easy airport to get to with direct daily flights from most cities in the U.S. and abroad.
Once you arrive to the Cancun/Playa del Carmen/Tulum area, we can arrange to have you picked up at any hotel or resort in the area. When making a reservation, please be sure to give us the name of the hotel in which you are staying, your room number, the name under which the room is registered, and the phone number and contact information for the hotel.
For your day trip to Isla Blanca, we arrange hotel pick-ups at your hotel if you are staying in the Cancun Hotel Zone or Downtown Cancun. Pick up time is approximately 5:30 AM. All of these days trips are 8-hour trips, as the area is a lot bigger than Cancun and to get you to all the spots requires a longer boat ride.
Full Day Guided Fishing ---------------------------------------------------------- $400.00 per day
