Food and Beverages

Chaa Creek BarSpoil your taste buds and enjoy delectable 'Jungle Cuisine' in the lodge’s main dining room. Enjoy the sounds of birds quarrelling in the surrounding trees in the daytime, and listen to the symphony of night sounds each evening while you dine under candlelight. At the Chaa Creek restaurant, the amazing kitchen staff combines modern and 'old fashioned' cooking techniques with a wide variety of fresh local produce to create innovative and original meals.

Each morning you can start your day light with a selection of tropical fruits and homemade yogurt, or go local and try a more substantial breakfast of refried beans, eggs, and freshly prepared corn tortillas. For lunch you can order off of the lodge’s extensive 'Back-a-Bush' Menu with a choice of international dishes like pizzas and pastas accompanied by some regional favorites like quesadillas and tamales. Apart from the a la carte menu at dinner time, there is also the Chef's daily four course connoisseur menu, which for many guests is one of the highlights of the day. Innovative dishes like carrot and ginger soup flavored with orange peel and lemon grass, cho cho and cantaloupe salad with mango and balsamic dressing, or fresh fish fillet wrapped in 'Santa Maria' leaves sprinkled with lime butter are just a few examples of what you can expect to find in this menu.
The lodge grows most of the produce in their organic Maya farm, and what they cannot grow they ‘hand pick’ from local producers. The lodge’s bar has in stock the best selection of spirits in the country, and is open from six in the morning until the last guest leaves at night.

How To Get There

Most Yellow Dog guests that visit Chaa Creek will usually drive down to the lodge from Belize City, either before or after a standard fishing package. Yellow Dog will be happy to coordinate all transfers and details. The 1.5 hour drive from the airport in Belize City to the lodge is pleasant and hassle free, with the land continually changing as you leave the coast. The Maya Mountains are visible for most of the drive to the lodge, with the distinctive, jagged Cockscomb Mountains becoming more distinct as you move inland and pass the national capitol of Belmopan and the Hummingbird Highway. More fertile farmland appears and the land begins undulating towards the foothills of the Maya Mountains. The trip is comfortable and it will seem like no time at all before you’re passing the sprawling Mennonite community of Spanish Lookout, the well-tended agricultural stations of Central Farm and the old British Forces base of Holdfast Camp to begin approaching the twin towns of first Santa Elena and then San Ignacio across the Hawksworth Bridge. People often remark on the old west colonial look of San Ignacio, or Cayo as it’s called locally. Perched on the border with Guatemala and the meeting of the Mopan and Macal Rivers, it has long been a vibrant bilingual agricultural and trade centre since the time of the ancient Maya.

Guests can arrive and depart on any day of the week, and trips of any length can be arranged. Yellow Dog will be happy to coordinate all of your transfers and arrivals, and a Chaa Creek package can easily be added on to any fishing package that we offer throughout Belize.
