REMOTA RESORT - CHILE

REMOTA RESORT - CHILE

This is an amazing and totally unique resort operation, and one that we HIGHLY recommend for couples looking to combine some great fishing with a high-end, adventurous visit to Southern Chile. Remota Resort was designed by Germán del Sol, the great Chilean architect who had a hand in other properties in Torres del Paine and the Atacama Desert. From the outside it is simply stunning. An experiment in modernism that takes root in local architecture. It’s one level, but long and strangely-shaped, with huge windows, fire pits, and lounging areas everywhere. There is no place like it on the planet.

Typical Length of Stay

Standard packages at Remota Resort are three, four, seven, ten and fourteen nights. Yellow Dog can customize your trip itinerary base on the number of days that you want to fish and other activities that you want to include.

Accommodations and Lodging

Remota Lodge Remota has 72 rooms, all with a stunning view of Ultima Esperanza Bay, the nearby Balmaceda Glacier, and the Paine Mountain Range. Each room is approximately 345 square feet and features a private bath, direct dial phone, and a large, comfortable bed far nicer than anything that is usually found at a fishing lodge. Each of the rooms has floor-to-ceiling windows with gorgeous views. There’s no TV in the rooms and no modern distractions, but there is wireless internet located in the bar and lobby areas.

Hotel Remota offers a heated indoor swimming pool, a Finnish sauna, an open air Jacuzzi, and massage and spa treatments by reservation in the resort's private spa area. Additionally, there are two meeting halls, several quiet reading and lounge areas, and a yoga studio. The restaurant is four stars as you would expect. Local produce and seafood from the bay is paired with Chilean wine from their extensive cellar.

Food and Beverages

Food has been specially thought out for both the daily open-air activities while staying at the resort, and for hotel life in the mornings and evenings at Remota. There is special emphasis on local fresh products, small-scale fishing harvests, and local farmers’ produce, including ripe and delicious fruit according to season. Obviously you can also expect a fantastic line-up of amazing Chilean wine. A buffet breakfast is served early each morning in the dining room, to facilitate the planning of the fishing day, while observing the weather changes that every day brings.

Fishing Information

Chilean Brown TroutThis is an area of Chile and of Patagonia that is rarely visited and almost never fished. Located just north of the wind-swept waters of Tierra del Fuego, and south of the more well-known Chilean fishing areas of Coyhaique, Chaiten and Puerto Montt, this is an area that is legitimately considered "off-the-grid." For anglers looking for some place new and different, this definitely qualifies! Remota is the only operation and "lodge" in the entire area, which means that you can expect to have the area's fishing all to yourself.

The area rivers and streams are pristine, productive and diverse, and all fisheries are accessed and fished by walking and wading (instead of with rafts or jet boats). Many of the waters and access points are private and reserved for the guides and guests of Remota. Most of the river and stream fisheries are small and intimate, and brown trout are the main focus. Fish run anywhere from 14" to over 22", and the fish are un-pressured and usually willing to eat. During the summer months, you can fish a variety of dry flies on almost every piece of water in the region. During the Chilean spring and fall seasons you can do well with nymphs and streamers.

Boats and Equipment

All fishing in the region is done by walking and wading area rivers and streams. A van and driver will accompany you and your guide each day to the river, and will wait with you while you spend your day on the waters. While the lodge does feature a small amount of loaner equipment, it is advised that anglers bring all of their own equipment and flies, including rods, reels, waders, boots and all terminal tackle.

Non-Angling Activities and Options

Patagonian LandscapeNon-anglers visiting Remota will be in heaven, as the Resort offers music and movies, talks on Patagonian nature and culture, regular bonfires, a full bar area, a complete gift shop, and plenty of leisure space to talk, read, exercise, or just enjoy your time. The most famous and impressive offering of Remota is their organized tour and guided trip program. These tours are discussed and finalized at the bar at around 7:00 PM each evening, where visitors meet with their guides and plan their activities. Depending on the weather and what each person wants to see and do the following day, you will then select the best option for the following morning. Remota offers fourteen amazing and different tours in a region that is a real world reserve of beauty and culture, both within Torres del Paine National Park, as well as throughout the area's surrounding mountains, glaciers, lakes, rivers, forests, and estancias. The Resort's highly trained team of guides speak both Spanish and English. They are friendly and enthusiastic people who feel that being a guide is a pleasure as much as it is their job.
