Experience pure relaxation, wonderful accommodations, gourmet food, and world class bonefishing at one of the Caribbean’s most unique and beautiful full-service nature resorts. Located on South Andros, Tiamo offers comfortable beachside accommodations in the most unspoiled of environments. Tiamo is at the forefront of what’s known as globally responsible tourism, and they have successfully proven that creating an environmentally-conscientious operation can be accomplished without sacrificing the quality of the experience that they provide for guests. Guests stay in private beach bungalows – quaint on the outside and very comfortable within. There are no roads that lead to Tiamo, and the only way to get there is via a scenic 15-minute boat ride through the sparkling waters of the Southern Bight. The perfect destination for a couples trip or a very private Caribbean Honeymoon coupled with the best bonefishing in the Caribbean!
Any length of stay is welcome at Tiamo from a weekend getaway to multi-week visits.
Eleven private, environmentally-friendly bungalows provide accommodations for up to 22 total guests at a time. Overhanging eves, large palm trees, ceiling fans, and screened windows keep these guest quarters cool with minimal power usage. Each bungalow is decorated with Bahamian pastel colors and décor, and each has its own private bathroom. Imagine yourself walking along the private pathway from your bungalow to the azure waters of the south bight and lounging in your hammock or beach chair to watch the sun set over the bight. This is what this destination specializes in; relaxing in style with unmatched service. Tiamo also has great infinity swimming pool adjacent to the main lodge building and overlooking the main beach. Hard-core anglers and total non-anglers will both love the full-service amenities of this high-end resort.
When it’s time to eat at Tiamo, you will enjoy one of the finest dining experiences in all of the Bahamas. The sophisticated, natural approach that defines the resort’s philosophy is applied to the food they serve in the restaurant, and their Michelin-trained chef will deliver and amazing menu. Savor the flavours of carefully crafted Caribbean and fusion cuisine, made using the freshest local and organic ingredients and complemented by an excellent selection of wines from some of the world’s best vineyards.
While fishing is not the sole focus or even the main focus of this destination, Tiamo works directly with the area’s top independent guides. Since the resort is located in the less populated south bight, the fishing grounds are expansive, less pressured, and full of eager bonefish! Numerous cuts, cays, inland flats, coastal flats and lagoons provide “endless” fishing grounds for the guests and guides, allowing you the opportunity to explore and fish an island that is justifiably known as the “Bonefishing Capital of the World." The guides will customize each day based on exactly what you want to do. You can wade all day for tailing bones or spend your time poling the deeper flats for larger bones. If you are new to saltwater fly fishing, the guides are excellent instructors and can target large schools of smaller bones that pounce on flies. For the veteran angler the south bight is known for monster bonefish tipping the scales at over ten pounds. Another bonus for this resort is the close proximity to the famed west side of Andros. Only a 25-minute run by boat enables you to hunt for tarpon, permit, and the classic West Side milky-colored bones. Other species found on the flats are barracuda, mangrove snapper, and jacks. The resort’s beach offers shots at good-sized cruising bonefish throughout the year and can easily be waded on either side of the resort. This is ideal for those wishing to “sneak” some fishing in on a romantic or family getaway or during non-guided days!
SEASON
Tiamo offers year-round fishing and guest accommodations. October through mid-July is peak season for fishing in Andros, when the weather and water temperatures are ideal.
January – February
A wide variety of fish species can be caught at the beginning of the calendar year. Best months for trophy bonefish! Lots of big barracuda on the flats as well.
March – April
Peak bonefish season for consistent weather of warm sunny days.
May – June
Bonefish, tarpon, and barracuda are plentiful. Winds are calmer and cooling afternoon rain showers are possible.
July – September
Morning fishing is best for bonefish, as the flats heat up quickly. Great months for stalking barracuda, sharks, and snapper. Calm winds, with the exception of the random Caribbean storm. Tarpon are also available.
October – December
All of the bights of Andros are great during these months. Good time of the year to find the elusive permit.
Anglers fish from 16-foot Dolphin Super Skiffs, complete with poling platforms, 90-140HP Yamaha outboards, and spacious casting decks. They are roomy, fast and comfortable. It is recommended that anglers bring all of their own gear and equipment, including rods, reels, wading boots, flies and all terminal tackle.
Tiamo specializes in alternative activities aside from fishing, which is a big part of the reason that people visit this destination. Included in your stay are a number of free activities. You can take off down the Bight for an afternoon of kayaking. You can fish right off the Tiamo Beach or sail one of the easy-to-navigate catamarans into the beautiful Bahamian sunset. Explore the crystal clear waters of South Andros and the South Bight with complimentary snorkeling gear or stay ashore and explore the diverse wildlife on a guided or unguided nature walk.
The Nature Concierge Team is a knowledgeable and friendly part of the staff, and they offer complementary guided trips to some of the most beautiful, exotic, and breathtaking areas of the island. See the amazing Blue Holes, the "Mysterious Crack," or the endless miles of coral reef along the eastern coast of Andros Island. This is a great place to learn about the ecology and fragile natural systems of the Caribbean.
