Here is a simple impressionistic fly that works well as a nymph or wet fly. Anyone with basic skill can tie it.

Step 1. Attach tying thread and ribbing material.

Step 2. Dub fur, synthetic, or feather body. If a heavy body is desired use the loop dubbing method. For a lighter body use the single strand method.

Step 3. Rib the body with metallic thread or wire - latter is preferred.

Step 4. Strip the down or fluff from the selected "hackle" feather and tie in tip first. Two or three wraps of the feather are sufficient to hackle the fly.

Step 5. Whip finish and cement.
