Prior to our Nebraska Adventure (see Jon Spiegel's article) I was informed
that white or off-white flies were getting good results. Sitting down
at the vise I created this particular pattern which turned out to be very
productive. Since the trip I've tried it in Colorado with equally good
results.
Mr. Crafty Recipe
Hook/Size: Dai-Riki #930 2/0 Saltwater Hook 1X Strong
Thread: Danvillle Flymaster Plus 210 or Danville Flat Waxed Nylon
in white or tan
Body: Craft or Polar Fur applied in a dubbing loop with a bit of
pearl Ice Dubbing mixed in
Eyes: Real Eyes from Spirit River Nickel/Red
Tail: White or off-white fir (I used mink ) over 15 to 20 strands
of Krystal Flash - tie in a short 20-25# test mono loop to keep the tailing
material from twisting around the hook. The length of the tail from the
eyes is about 4 to 4 1/2inches in length. The fur tail is secured directly
in front of the eyes and at the bend (in front of the mono loop).
Head: Red thread sealed with epoxy or Loon Hard Head
