Size: 12
Hook: TMC 200R or comparable 3XL hook
Thread: Uni 6/0 Black
Head: nickel, or copper colored beads (I prefer
the nickel). Wrap
a short section of lead wire and force it into the back so that the
bead is forced against the eye of the hook. If you want a fast
sinking fly use a tungsten bead.
Body: Brown ostridge herl (2 are plenty) tighly
wrapped 3/4 of the way up the shank. Trim it to a proper shape with
a pair of sissors if necessary
Ribbing: Flat waxed single strand
thread or floss wrapped counter clockwise over the herl - olive or
brown. You can also get creative with colors but I have found the
darker shade to be more productive
Legs: Brown round rubber legs
Collar: Brown hen hackle tied in by the tip - fold
it to get a good wrap. Depending on the hackle three turns should
do it
Wing: Clump of Brown hen hackle tied in on top. Between
the wing and the head wrap in a couple of turns of dubbing - I'm using
Life Cycle - Peacock
Tail: Brown goose biots
Comment: You can changeup the
body and hackle colors to suit individual requirements, but I've found
the above color scheme to work the best. When tied properly you will
find this fly to be exceedingly durable.
