Look Before You Leap

November 7th turned out to be pleasantly warm so I decided to give Walter Ranch a try. The water was a bit cold, 46 degrees, but I picked up a dozen trout fishing nymphs through the deeper runs over 4 hours. Before stepping in the water I always spend time looking for fish in likely spots adjacent to the bank. This seems to be something most fishermen forget to do. I'll just stand and watch for a couple of minutes. On this particular day I spotted several fish lying a foot or two off the bank. I managed to catch both of them. Moral of the story: Take your time before rushing ahead to
that perfect spot 10 feet from the bank. |
