Saltwater Saturday

Learn all about saltwater fly fishing during our Saltwater Saturday event!

Free Presentations, Demonstrations and Gear Checks!

Have you been secretly looking at pictures of tarpon, bonefish, and permit, thinking fishing the saltwater is something you should give a try? Or are you a salty dog, who makes the trip to the big blue multiple times a year? Either way, our Saltwater Saturday on Feb. 15, 2014 will have something for you!

Come have your gear checked out and prepped for your next trip!

We'll have all of our saltwater specialists in-house, ready to take a look at your back tackle and make sure you're ready for any upcoming trips. Have a knot on a reel you haven't fished in a few years that you just don't trust will hold up to a monster tarpon? We can help!

Just getting into saltwater fishing? We'll recommend the right gear for you depending on where you're planning on going and the species you're after. We've been to quite a few destinations over the years, and someone in the shop has probably already experienced the destination you're heading to, so we can give you first hand advice!

In addition to our own experienced staff, we'll also have a few special guests! Umpqua signature tyer Dave Student will start the day by tying up some of his amazing saltwater patterns from 10am-12pm. In the afternoon we'll also have Frank Smethurst in, giving presentations and demonstrations from 1pm-3pm!

About Dave Student

Dave Student

Dave’s fly tying roots began well over 40 years ago, tying patterns for trout. Dave is a self-proclaimed tying "junkie" and is considered an expert on trout and salt water flies. In addition to having fished all over the Rockies, he has spent plenty of time on the water in the Florida Keys and Belize.

Dave loves to fish the salt and believes fishing for trout is a great way to keep your skills current in-between trips to the big blue. Conversely he believes fishing salt water makes you a better trout fisherman, since you typically have to analyze the situation before you take your one best shot. Dave's simple and practical approach to tying and fishing results in patterns that are extremely durable, easy to tie, and fun to fish!

Dave is an Umpqua Feather Merchants Signature Fly Tyer, having created the Megalopsicle, and Tarpon Tapas, with more on the way.
