In Cuba, you can bonefish on white sand flats while your family enjoys the breathtaking beaches, enjoy a cocktail in the hotel pool, or participate in one of the numerous activities the resort offers. Fish during the day and relax while watching an incredible sunset in style and comfort in one of the most beautiful pristine natural environments in the world. When you combine this stunning ecosystem with the personal touch and excellent service that Avalon is renowned for, as well as our 15 years of experience in providing top-notch fly fishing trips you are guaranteed a great experience.

Cayo Largo is in the South Central region of the Cuban Archipelago, and it’s one of the last virtually untouched ecosystems left on the planet. With 17 miles (27 Km) of fine white sand beaches, the surrounding ocean produces a spectacular kaleidoscope of colors, from incredible shades of ocean blue to the stunning pastels of turquoise and green. When you arrive in Cayo Largo you will be surprised to find a natural environment that has scarcely changed over the last 1000 years.

The marine scenery is incredible around the coral reef system that links the chain of islets around Cayo Largo like an underwater bridge. You will find all your favorite water sports on this island. Scuba diving lovers will be amazed by the explosion of color in this underwater world.

What to expect fly fishing Cuba

General Information
Avalon is one of the few companies in the world that can offer its guests the unique ability to fish in a completely exclusive marine park, free of commercial fishermen, nets or any skiffs or yachts from other companies. Think about the incredible possibilities of having all those nautical kilometers to yourself and being able to choose the species and the places you want to fish, without any fuel limitation during your fishing week. Guests can expect the following species when fishing with Avalon in Cuba: Permit, Bonefish (large ones), Tarpon, Jack Crevalle, Barracudas, Mutton Snapper, Snook, etc.

Food and Beverages

Typical Length of Stay
The standard stay is seven (7) nights / six (6) fishing days.

Non-Angling Activities and Options
The marine scenery is incredible around the coral reef system that links the chain of islets around Cayo Largo like an underwater bridge. You will find all your favorite water sports on this island. Scuba diving lovers will be amazed by the explosion of color in this underwater world.

Cayo Largo owes its name to its elongated shape. Around 1494 Admiral Christopher Columbus stopped briefly during his second voyage to Cuba. It is also linked to the large groups of pirates that used to roam the Caribbean Sea.

The bounty of nature found at Cayo Largo is a well-kept secret. It has pristine coral reefs and is complemented by neighboring keys inhabited by numerous species of flora and fauna, among them iguanas, pelicans, and turtles.

Cayo Romano Lodging Overview

The ROMANO is a stunning new accommodation in Cayo Romano. With a privileged location, at only 100 meters from the fishing marina, this new private mini lodge has a swimming pool, bar, lounge, a variety of signature restaurants, bowling area, and more. This lodge features several activities for anglers and also for non fishing guests. Additionally, the accommodation is only 1 hour away from Cayo Coco airport.

The lodge is built right on the water, overlooking a beautiful channel visited daily by tarpon schools and jacks. Some of the best fishing takes place right off the marina before dark.

All rooms are spacious and well appointed with air conditioning, tile floors and nice showers. The Romano has a private block of rooms specially assigned to the Avalon anglers, in a quiet area.

In the open-air main lodge you will find comfortable lounging chairs and a fully stocked bar with an accommodating bartender. After a long day on the flats it’s nice to recount your adventures to fellow anglers while sipping an ice-cold beverage and enjoying the daily selection of snacks prepared fresh every afternoon. After a shower, make your way to the dining room to enjoy the chef’s daily specialty.

This accommodation offers a “lodge atmosphere” to anglers who visit it, as it is remote but not disconnected. The main lodge has wireless internet for guest use. Come down and enjoy yourself at Cayo Romano.

Jardines Avalon IV Live Aboard

It has been an initiative of Avalon over the last decade to ensure the comfort of our guests and the luxury of the experiences in Jardines de la Reina by continually upgrading our yachts. In 2019, we released the Jardines Avalon III at 160 feet with the most updated amenities and highest level of comforts with 15 cabins and an incredible cruising ability. This vessel has set the standard for our newest project to be released in August 2020, the Jardines Avalon IV (NT).

The former Tortuga has developed a strong following as our floating hotel in Jardines. Many anglers, divers, and eco adventurers have called this special place home for weeks on end, enjoying the classic comforts of this Cuban vessel. Now, with an increased demand for updates and higher levels of comfort and service, Avalon has invested in a massive improvement in building a Jardines Avalon IV from the hull up.

This amazing 180 foot vessel will be permanently moored in Jardines de la Reina and will feature 20 staterooms, a spacious lounge, a modern dining room, and a sun deck to enjoy every aspect of the Gardens of the Queen. Each room will include personalized air conditioning and heating controls, ample storage space, and convertible double beds.

The Jardines Avalon IV will be the perfect base of operations for your week of fly fishing, diving, eco adventuring, and experiencing the pristine nature of Jardines de la Reina through your conservation workshop program. Come join us in Cuba!

Important Baggage Information

Cuban rules for admission of items on board are stricter than past, for security reasons on domestic flights.  Hooks, nylons (including tippets, leaders, etc.), spray or fishing rods (regardless of size) are not allowed in hand luggage. They must be shipped as checked with bags. For your convenience and luggage safety, we suggest putting some kind of lock on the luggage to be carried.

All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport that does not expire within six (6) months of trips dates. Please be sure that your passport has at least two blank, unstamped pages remaining in the back, and that it is not torn, de-laminated, or damaged in any way.
