We Own Our Base Camp. We Live Here All Year
Unlike most outfitters in Colorado, our base camp is operated on private property on the edge of over 240,000 acres of designated road-less wilderness. We invest heavily in our facilities to accommodate our guests. We have a 3,000 square ft. pack station where we can saddle and pack 30 mules at a time, under any weather conditions. There is almost always staff at our facility with ready stock. Although we are as remote or more remote than other outfitters’ public land or leased base camps, emergency vehicles and help can always reach our base camp. There are 50 miles of horse trails and 13 wilderness camps in prime Elk, Mule Deer, and Trout territory.
Day fishing option: All of our day trips are horseback based fishing trips. Horseback fishing trips are operated out of our ranch and pack-station into the Flat Tops Wilderness. On these trips, fishermen should expect to
ride a minimum of 1.5 hrs each way. These rides take you through beautiful country to pristine lakes and alpine streams. The primary catch on our horseback day trips is brook trout and cutthroats.
Clients show up relatively early 7-8 am have a coffee/pastry breakfast. Ride up to 2 hours to a fishing location. We have a hot shore lunch and head back after a little more fishing. We usually end up fishing for 4-6 hours (I will stay out longer if folks want as long as I get them back before dark) and around 4-5 hours of riding.
4 day Wilderness Camp Fishing: These trips are designed for adventurous fly-fisherman and those wanting to fish some of the most remote wilderness streams and lakes in the lower 48. Guests should be prepared for camping in comfortable wall tent camps, 8-15 miles into the Flat Tops Wilderness Area. It is not uncommon for fishermen to go all four days, seeing a few other fishermen outside of their group. These trips include a fishing guide, transportation by 4×4 for the duration of the trip,
and well-equipped camps. Meals are prepped “wilderness style” with open fire cooking and Dutch oven cooking mixed in.
Folks in decent physical shape can expect to fish a mix of streams, valley pools, and alpine trophy cutthroat lakes. Some of these high-elevation lakes are rarely fished by other humans. Guests with more limited fitness
still have great access to endless streams, small valley lakes and one beautiful alpine cutthroat reservoir. This trip is a 4×4 (Polaris Ranger and/or Jeep) based trip. If you are interested in a multi-day horseback fishing trip, consider booking consecutive Day Trips or Three-Day Lodge Fishing Trips. Those trips are conducted out of our ranch into the Flat Tops Wilderness Area, via horses and mules.
3 day 4-night lodge fishing: All 3-day wilderness lodge trips are customized to your preferences. Some guests choose to fish the wilderness area via horseback all 3 days, while other guests choose to mix in a day of 4×4 based fishing. These 3-day adventure trips include three meals each day, riding horses, 4×4 transportation, luxury lodge accommodations, and a dedicated guide per 2-4 guests. $1,845/person minimum of two
people. Arrival after 4 PM night before. Checkout 6 PM on the third day.
The lodge is 3,500 sq. ft. and can sleep up to 8 people. It is 100% log construction with high-end finishes. There is a large master bedroom, two sleeping lofts, a large great room, and two guest bedrooms with log bunk-beds with full-size bottom bunks. The lodge has three bathrooms, a high-end kitchen, and wrap around deck.
We rent out the entire facility to one group at a time. You will be the only guests in the lodge. It is the ultimate in private retreats.
If you are planning on a day fishing trip, you can request to stay at the lodge the night before your trip. This option is subject to availability, please contact our Adventure Travel Team for more details.
