2019 Dates: November 11-13th * 2 Rods Open

Join Front Range Anglers Adventure Travel Manager Lisa McLaughlin and Captain Jason Catching on a HOSTED Trip in Louisiana fly fishing for Big Redfish!

The Louisiana Gulf Coast has the best estuaries and marsh structure in the entire world. This is why the state’s motto is the Sportsman Paradise. Whether we are fishing large open bays that are covered in oyster reefs, fishing the back marsh, or duck ponds there is no other place like the inshore fishing grounds of Louisiana.

Louisiana Redfishing is great year around. From October to February in Louisiana redfishing means monster redfish in the 20 to 40 pound range. In late fall, schools of redfish show up by the thousands in the mazes of lagoons, bays and bayous that make up the Louisiana coast, fattening up for the winter months.  Let Jason Catchings and his team of expert, licensed captains introduce you to this region’s incredible fishing for monster redfish and black drum. You’ll fish from modern skiffs. We only sight fish – no blind casting. And to top it off, the marsh areas that we fish are true wilderness areas, where you rarely see another boat, much less another fisherman!

On this trip, we will be staying in a lodge either in Hopedale or near Venice depending on where the fish are. Rates are based on Double Occupancy but you can upgrade to single rooms and/or boat. Transportation from Louis Armstrong Airport is included. 9-10 weight rods with quality saltwater reels will be the most used gear.  Consult with FRA about the  condition of your current equipment/tackle connections and backing. FRA can also build a  custom fly box for your trip. Most flies will be crab or shrimp imitations.

Aside from rods/reels, anglers are expected to  have good Polarized sunglasses (amber or copper), rain jacket, sun protection (clothing  and cream), insect repellent, sunhat, fishing gloves, finger tape, camera. FRA has a complete  selection of saltwater fishing accessories.

What to expect fly fishing Nola Redfish

nola redfish - the fishing

Late fall and winter in Louisiana is an excellent time for large Redfish less than an hour from New Orleans. On this trip, we will be staying in a houseboat lodge right next to the dock where we shove off each day from Hopedale (voted Sport Fishing Capital of the World by ESPN) or drive to Delacroix. The marsh fishing is quite pristine; sight casting to Reds than can be over 30 lbs.  Not only can the Redfishing be spectacular, you will be amazed at the expanse and beauty of the fishery.  Also, your host is very knowledgeable of the sights, sounds and smells of New Orleans. In case you want to extend your trip to the city he is available to consult with you to create an experience in The Big Easy.

The full-time guides are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to this fishery and applicable angling techniques.  Redfish are the main target species, but you do occasionally bump into other fish such as Black Drum, Speckled Trout, and Jack Crevalle.

9-10 weight rods with quality saltwater reels will be the most used gear.  Consult with FRA about the  condition of your current equipment/tackle connections and backing. FRA can also build a  custom fly box for your trip. Most flies will be crab or shrimp imitations.
