Just a short, smooth boat run from the rental house, lies Laguna Madre, where the search for Redfish tails begins. Redfishing is unique here, far different than many other places around the United States. Anglers are greeted with clear, sand and turtle grass flats built for sight fishing. Redfish are the primary target species, but very large Speckled Trout also frequent these flats, as well as the occasional Jack Crevalle. Looking for a unique saltwater trip with small crowds? What to expect fly fishing South Padre Island
The typical daily schedule. Please keep in mind that your daily schedule will vary in accordance with tides and your fishing desires.
- 6:00AM: Wake
- 6:30AM: Breakfast
- 7:00AM: Depart for flats
- 8:00AM- 4:30PM: Fishing
- 5:30PM: Back at the rental
- 7:00PM: Dinner/Drinks
General Information
Fishing days start with the arrival of your flats boat at the dock of your air conditioned rental house. From there it is a short run to Laguna Madre and the fishing begins. Redfish are the primary target here, but n addition to Redfish, the lagoon has large Speckled Trout and the occasional Jack Crevalle. Most of the fishing is done from the flats boat, but on good days wade fishing on the western edge of SPI is available. Conditions permitting we will fish the east side of SPI (Gulf Side) for Tarpon, Jacks, etc. 8 weight rods with good saltwater reels will be the most used tool. For Tarpon, a 10-11 weight with a good reel is recommended. Consult with FRA about the condition of your current equipment and tackle connections and backing. FRA can assist with any gear needs and also create a custom fly box for your trip. Most flys will be crab or shrimp imitations. Polarized sunglasses (amber or copper), rain jacket, sun protection (clothing and cream), insect repellant, sunhat, fishing gloves, finger tape, camera. FRA has a complete selection of saltwater fishing accessories. Rental house has washer/dryer. Outside temperature will be hot. In the house and on the water it will be cooler. For fishing just the 3 days, you should purchase the one day All Water package for $16 (total $48). If you are planning to fish other days in August, consider the $63 Salt Water Package. Rental House on the Arroyo Colorado
Lodging Overview & Details
Located on the banks of the Arroyo Colorado, you will find your rental home for the next four days. Accommodations are very comfortable. Full kitchen, outdoor grill and patio, air conditioning, comfortable bedrooms, and your own personal boat dock. One of the coolest things about this rental is that your guides and flats boats pick you up at your rental. You can also fish from the lighted dock at night!
Food and Beverages
There are restaurants in Harlingen and Arroyo City, but most meals will be at the Rental House; including great mexican food delivered to the house ($15/plate). We enjoy doing meals this way because it allows the small group to choose what and where they want to eat for each meal. The rental house has a full kitchen and an outdoor grill. Bottled water, soda, cold beer, wine, and spirits, will be purchased separately on the way to the rental.

The rental does offer free internet access and there is cell phone service here as well.
Where is South Padre Island?
South Padre Island (SPI) is located at the southwest corner of Texas north of the border towns of Brownsville (TX), and Matamoros (Mexico.) Just east of the long skinny island are the sheltered waters of Laguna Madre, which provide unique clear water opportunities for Redfish.
How to Get There
Fly into Harlingen (HRL), TX on September 5th. From the airport, shuttle service is provided to the rental house.

Drivers license, fishing license.

Cancellation/Refund Policy
At time of booking 50% of the trip is due and payable. At 30 days the remainder is due. Cancellation greater than 90 days from date of trip, all monies refunded less $100 fee if a replacement angler is found. Cancellation within 90 days, no refunds are provided unless a qualified replacement angler is provided. No refunds are provided for trip cancellation due to Weather, Acts of God, Airline/Travel issues.
