Arkansas Gold Camp Report 9-8-14

The water level at Gold Camp is hovering around 250 – 300 cfs … pretty much perfect for wading and finding fish. The weather has been variable and overnight lows are starting to get cold. Starting air temps around 8:30am are around 45 or less. Water temps have been starting at 57-58. While the day warms up quickly the water warms slowly and the fish has been slower in the morning. Once the water warms a couple of degrees the fish start feeding more aggressively. Not a bad place to skip lunch. The hatches are pretty well sequenced starting with Midges, then Baetis, then Caddis.

Save the dry flies for the afternoon – Typically a Caddis with small Baetis flies like #18 – #20 Two Bit Hookers or RS2s dropped off the back. There are tons of Stone Flies shucks in the area. Add a Rubber Leg to your two fly nymph rig for additional hits.
