FRONT RANGE ANGLERS NEWSLETTER

"Dedicated to bringing people and fish together"
December 2004

Hello All,

It appears we have some creativity in our midst. Thanks for all the contest entries last month. We decided to award two winners instead of just one because of their insightful 10 top reasons for "catch and release". They can come in to pick up their C&F boxes. Click here for contest results.

Here's what's going on this month:

  • We still have a couple spots open for Jack Dennis's fly tying clinic. Click here for more info.
  • We have the new Sage fly rods in: The TXL, FLI and the "Launch". Also check out lots of new packs and bags from Fishpond, and the new portable Made 2 Fly tying desk.
  • We are setting dates for saltwater destination trips. We have some good value trips this year so please inquire if you're interested.

And for our holiday plug. The staff of FRA is committed to helping your significant other purchase the best quality, cost-effective fly fishing holiday gift you cannot live without. If you want to ensure that you're not going to get that wicker creel or a fancy new fish stringer this holiday, just send them our way and we'll do the rest!

Happy Holidays! Bill

FLY TYING
Getting Started: You've decided that its high time to join the growing ranks of fly tiers but you're not sure about the tools and materials.

Fly Nymphs: Here's a generic pattern that works exceedingly well as a nymph or wet fly.

PT Brassie: Simplicity and productivity are the two words that come to mind when describing the PT Brassie. Having a few on hand for the Dream Stream would be a smart move.

Czech Nymphs: Maybe you've read or heard about Czech or European Nymphs and how to fish them -click here for the FRA July newsletter story - Here's a look at how these deadly patterns are constructed.

Fly Tying Material of the Month - Estaz: It’s hard to beat Estaz as a body material - we've just stocked a new range of great colors from Spirit River.

DESTINATIONS
Sanibel Island: Bill spent part of his Thanksgiving break this year checking out this unique island off this coast of Florida. It's 70% wildlife preserve and excellent fishing.

TIPS AND TECHNIQUES

Double Grinner, or Uni Knot: Another alternative to the blood or surgeons knot.

Zen and the Art of Fly Fishing: Here is a reprint of an article written several years ago by Guy Turck. Follow this sage advice to improve your angling success.
