Randy was up in the park yesterday. The lower streams and rivers up there are getting more and more active.
“Antonio and I took a group of 5 people up the RMNP for a half day trip. The fishing in the park was very good today. My clients caught fish on small flashback pheasant tails and little black stonefly nymphs. There were many stones on the willows and at times we were covered in adults. The rivers are very low, clear and the fish are super spooky so a stealthy approach is a must. The water is also still very cold and they fish are situated in the deeper pools. The Park should fish well until runoff starts, which could be soon.” ~Randy H.
The next couple of days should be good with overcast conditions. Early starts are not required. Give the water a little time to warm up. If you’ve never been up to the park, hire a guide for a day and let us show you around so you will be ready for the 2016 season.
We have two books that are great resources for fishing in the park. Both are comprehensive guide books, outlining locations, fly selection, tactics, and much more. If these books are not already in your library, it is a good time to pick them up.
