WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR BOULDER GUIDED FLY FISHING TRIP

You will only find a friendly and helpful staff along with a world-class, professional fly shop at Front Range Anglers. We specialize in introducing the sport of  catch and release fly-fishing to first-time fly fisherman in addition to helping experienced anglers hone their skills. You will find that our guides are extremely knowledgeable and patient as they assist you throughout your adventure.  Our trips are solely walk/wade.

Typically we start your trip by meeting at the shop, but pickup for you in the Boulder area can always be arranged with the guide. At the shop, you will be properly sized and fitted in your equipment to ensure your comfort. Once we have the equipment fitted and all the necessary fishing licenses, the guide will provide transportation to the water.

Our guides create a comfortable learning environment for you along with years of fly-fishing and guiding experience to get you onto fish. You will find that our guides are both patient and attentive, especially with younger anglers.  A dynamic guide will work hard so that you don’t have too!

Your FRA guide will provide:

Flies – FRA guides are stocked and prepared with flies.
Drinking Water – It’s very important to stay hydrated in the dry high alpine air of Colorado. Drink more than you think you need.
First Aid Kit – All FRA guides are First Aid / CPR Certified.
Sunscreen – SPF 30+ is necessary year round in Colorado to avoid nasty burns. Glare off the water only intensifies the sun.
Bug Spray – Simple, but it makes a world of difference in your enjoyment on the water.

What you should bring:

Layers –  The weather in Colorado is notorious for changing quickly. Your best strategy is to bring multiple light layers that can be added/removed quickly.
Packable Rainwear – Summer rains can be cold and intense, and often times even include small hail.
Pants – Light, synthetic pants are best in waders. Jeans bunch up and become uncomfortable quickly.
Socks – Medium or lightweight synthetic socks are ideal.
Sunglasses – Standard lenses are good, but polarized lenses great! Bring them if you have them.
Hat – Recommended for sun protection and comfort, and it also helps cut glare from above which will help you spot fish!

  • I had a fantastic trip with FRA. I met Craig at the lodge and he was a great host and guide. Not only did I catch fish - but I learned a ton. He was teaching me with each cast how to optimize the techniques we were using that day. I think I caught around 15 browns and rainbows. He took me to a beautiful stretch of The Big Thompson River. Loved it!

  • I really want to give you a hearty well done and thank you for a great trip Tuesday. I can’t wait to get back to your neck of the world and splash some more water.

  • Thank you so much for an outstanding Colorado fly fishing experience! My inbox has been flooded with “thank you’s” from our team and clients. Everyone had an amazing time and it’s directly a result of you and your team’s commitment to delivering a full-service, exceptionally high quality guided fly fishing trip. Our team is very grateful to you and your fellow guides for delivering on everything you said you would and then some!

I’m confident that our 10 anglers are sitting at their desks in their respective offices thinking of their time on the river, wishing they were knee deep in ice cold water contemplating how they could have landed the one that got away!

  • Your whole team was terrific on Saturday. What a delight for us to end our conference experience in Denver with a unique group challenge in a truly special place. As the guy who landed five rainbows on his first fly fishing adventure, I’m truly grateful for your personal touch and good humor in making me have a great first time in waders. Truly a pleasure to meet you, I hope I have occasion to bring my own groups to you for more of the same well-planned fun in the outdoors. Please stay in touch!

  • What an outstanding trip. Jerry is still raving about the day and I have evidence of my biggest fish ever on a fly rod. Thank you again for guiding and taking some awesome pictures. I was very impressed with the knowledge and instruction you were able to provide to both Jerry and I, and of course… the fish you were able to help him land. Perfect.

    - Jerry & Ryan

  • You took our company and some of our clients on a guided trip on Saturday. I wanted to say thank you to you and your team for a fantastic trip. As the only “experienced” angler in the group, I entered hoping to learn a lot from you guys. I left having learned a lot times 10. I really appreciate how much knowledge Adam imparted on me and wish I hadn’t been out so late the night before so I could have been a little more alert. Make sure you let Adam know I appreciated his advice. Thanks, again.

  • We went fishing twice with FRA. We had family visiting and none of us had ever been fly fishing, but had always wanted to try it. We were nervous because we had heard that it can be very difficult at first. Don’t be intimidated! The incredible guides at FRA took us out and showed us the ropes. They provided all the gear and were awesome instructors. We had 2 guides for 4 people which allowed great personal attention. We went to a beautiful creek and it was a great experience. We caught a bunch of fish too! Our main guide (Austin) was so good that we specifically scheduled another trip with him
