Flows continue to be great for the Vrain in early December, but can be up and down a bit with the weaher fluctuations. Temperatures are also a bit more agreeable to the fish in Lyons rather than up higher. Fish will eat well presented dries (usually midge, or emerger patterns), nymphs, or streamers, so pick your favorite. One recomendation with the cooler water is to fish in areas with sun to start, especially in the AM. Hatches continue to be midges, BWO's, with midges being the most prevelant hatch.

For Dries, use a Hi Viz Midge, Griffith's Gnat, Purple Haze, Hi Viz Parachute BWO, Parachute Adams, High Vis No See Em Midge, Mole Fly, and a Hippy Stomper.

For nymphs, use a RS-2, Zebra Midge, SOS Nymh, Poison Tung, Juju Baetis, Shot Glass Baetis, Barr's Pure Midge, AR's Perdigon, Simple PTN, Thin Mint, Jigged Leech, Tung Stud, and Tail Water Tiny.

Fly Fishing the St. Vrain
The creek is full of opportunistic fish that are eager to take a dry fly, so take advantage of the great caddis, blue wing olive and terrestrial fishing. The midges that call the St. Vrain home are active all year and are always a safe bet come the colder months of the year. This is a great chance to get out and test some of those midge patterns that you have been drooling over all winter. The Fishing in the town of Lyons can be fantastic.
