Product Spotlight: Scientific Anglers Sharkwave GPX

True Story:

I used to think textured line was a gimmick, but after using the SharkWave GPX I can clearly see the advantages. I’ve always really enjoyed casting the previous Sharkskin GPX but the SharkWave is much less abrasive on my fingers. All versions of the GPX line are a half weight heavy to help load your rod for casting heavy flies. The high alpine lakes of Southern Colorado offered the perfect opportunity to cast my new five weight SharkWave GPX line over the weekend. The texture really aids in smooth, long casts clear across the water. There’s a lot of technology in SharkWave and it’s definitely worth the cost for an angler who wants every advantage they can buy. Just take a look below to see the technology that’s built into these lines.

Featuring Sharkskin texturing on the tip, Mastery texturing on the head and running line, and a smooth handling section at the end of the head, the SharkWave is the most technologically advanced family of fly lines on the market. At each texture change, there’s also a color change, so as long as you’re not too color-blind, you’ll have a visual reference for each section of line. The texturing reduces friction on the water and through the guides, providing longer casts, higher flotation, and easier pick-ups. It’s fishing. Friction-free.

Scientific Anglers’ patented dry-slick technology provides continual line slickness, allowing the line to shoot farther as it moves through the guides. Lines with AST easily shed dirt, algae, and other parasitic drag particles, allowing lines to cast farther, float higher, and stay cleaner than traditional lines.

Utilizing a unique blend of microballoons, we have developed a fly-line tip section that floats twice as high as a standard line. The tip section will be floating higher with our Dry Tip Technology, which means less drag from the front of the line and more positive hook-ups.

The Scientific Anglers Mastery Texture features precisely replicated hemispherical divots, similar to those found on a golf ball’s surface. This derivative of our Sharkskin series has less texture on its surface so it feels like a traditional fly line but performs like a Sharkskin. The result is a line that last longer, floats higher, casts easier, and, most importantly, fishes better.

Meet the Scientific Anglers Line Identification System. SA•ID is an innovative line-marking system allowing you to identify your lines at a glance. Wonder if a shooting head is 200 grain or a 300? Just look at the SA•ID. The SA•ID can be found on the first 1-2 feet of the tip section of your line.

Featuring microreplication technology, Sharkskin is a radical modification of typically smooth-surfaced fly lines. Its microtextured surface traps air to provide superior shootability and flotation while eliminating line flash and vastly reducing friction. Lines sit higher in the water, offering less drag and water spray, as well as easier mending, roll casting, and pick-ups.

The Tactile Reference Point is a non embossed section of line where the end of the head meets the running line. This allows you to feel—and hear—the transition from our textured technologies.
