Weekend Guide Report: Front Range

Great weekend of weather and even better weekend of fishing! I enjoyed a full day of guiding John on Saturday for his first fly fishing experience.

Started off on the Big T with some technical dry fly fishing. The midge hatch took a little longer than normal to get going, but by 11 o’clock the dry fly bite was excellent. Dry dropper on 7x was the ticket, also lighter colored midges in tan or even yellow really produced nicely for us.

After landing several nice fish we decided to have a quick lunch and head down to check out boulder creek for the afternoon. No need to cover lots of water here, just thoroughly fishing all the juicier runs and pools kept us landing fish consistently all afternoon. As always, much less technical conditions as far as fly selection on boulder creek, but the fish still demand a perfect drift. Best fishing on the creek right now is between Four-mile and the Falls. The tailwater tiny in size 18 gave us the most action.

Have fun out there and make sure not to leave any trash behind.
