Clear Creek River Report

Clear Creek River Report

8-8-2025

Flow has been steady, as has water temps. The fishing has been excellent as of recent! However, watch for snakes, which have been out, especially in the rockier areas. Expect tuber, and swimmers in the lower canyon, and rafters in the upper. Hatches have been midges, BWO, PMD's, Caddis, and a few golden stones.

...

For dries, throw a Para Ext PMD, Hippy Stomper, Furminsky Drake, AR's BWO, Superman Caddis, Hi Viz Quill Midge, Dry Humper and a Sexton's Grunch.

...

For Nymphs/subsurface use a Perdichingon, Sweet Meat Caddis, AR's Perdigon, Trina's Squirm, Squirmy, Depth Charge Worm, 2 Bit Hooker, Drake Bomb, Juju Baetis, Split Case PMD, Poison Tung, Tung Poudre Pupa or a Spanish Bullet.

About Clear Creek Fly Fishing

When all the rivers and streams seem to be overloaded with anglers, Clear Creek always has an empty hole to fish. Clear Creek parallels I-70 from just east of Idaho Springs to Georgetown. Idaho Springs is 32 miles west of Denver. For access to the stream, take exit 240 at Idaho Springs. Turn left, then turn right on old Highway 6. The stream is open to fishing most of its length.

The water can be swift, so care should be taken while wading. a basic 4- or 5-weight outfit is fine, but bring plenty of split shot.
