Clear Creek River Report

Clear Creek River Report

5-9-2025

Flows are up, and the water is often murky. So it can be difficult, but not impossible fishing. Similar to runoff, make sure to add some shot to get down, and add a attractor pattern. We noted that over last weekend, near Golden we are starting to see the first rumblings of the tuber hatch, so on nicer days, especially weekends, you'll be better off heading further into the canyon. Hatches have been midges, BWO, Caddis, and a few golden stones.

...

For dries, throw a Griffith's Gnat, Hippy Stomper, Hanging Midge, AR's BWO, Superman Caddis, Hi Viz Quill Midge, Dry Humper and a CDC Spent Midge.

...

For Nymphs/subsurface use a Zebra Midge, Sweet Meat Caddis, AR's Perdigon, Trina's Squirm, Lil Bit, Roza's Neon Jig, Aero Baetis, Flexy Stone, Juju Baetis, Squirmy Worm, Poison Tung, Tung Poudre Pupa or a Boroff's Homie

About Clear Creek Fly Fishing

When all the rivers and streams seem to be overloaded with anglers, Clear Creek always has an empty hole to fish. Clear Creek parallels I-70 from just east of Idaho Springs to Georgetown. Idaho Springs is 32 miles west of Denver. For access to the stream, take exit 240 at Idaho Springs. Turn left, then turn right on old Highway 6. The stream is open to fishing most of its length.

The water can be swift, so care should be taken while wading. a basic 4- or 5-weight outfit is fine, but bring plenty of split shot.
