Clear Creek River Report

Clear Creek River Report

11-15-2025

Flows are lower now, but still some of the best in the area.  With a lot of the higher terrain now being very cold, especially at night, you may run into some AM skim ice in the canyon. Downsize your tippet and fly selection. Still be sure to watch the redds, to preserve the resource. The biggest tip, is that with the cooler water, and less hours of daylight, start out by following the sun. The sunnier areas will have much more active fish, especially if starting earlier in the AM. Hatches have been midges, BWO, and Midges.

...

For dries, throw a Hi Viz Quill Midge, Hippy Stomper, Water Walker, AR's BWO, Superman Caddis, Hi Viz Griffith's Gnat, Dry Humper and a Purple Haze.

...

For Nymphs/subsurface use a Eggtasty, Kelsar, AR's Perdigon, Tung Stud, Croston, 2 Bit Hooker, Zebra Midge, Juju Baetis, Zebra Midge, Poison Tung, Tung Poudre Pupa or a Spanish Bullet.

About Clear Creek Fly Fishing

When all the rivers and streams seem to be overloaded with anglers, Clear Creek always has an empty hole to fish. Clear Creek parallels I-70 from just east of Idaho Springs to Georgetown. Idaho Springs is 32 miles west of Denver. For access to the stream, take exit 240 at Idaho Springs. Turn left, then turn right on old Highway 6. The stream is open to fishing most of its length.

The water can be swift, so care should be taken while wading. a basic 4- or 5-weight outfit is fine, but bring plenty of split shot.
