THE BEST BENEFITS

LODGE INFORMATION

The Fishing

Permit
If you are in search of the elusive permit, you are coming to the right place. The permit fishing in Guanaja will have you looking at real estate and wanting to move to the island. There is an abundance of permit that frequent the flats of Guanaja and it is likely to see between  10 - 50  permit in a day with multiple opportunities at shots!

Bonefish
Averaging 4-7 pounds, the bonefish in Guanaja are big and plentiful! There are several big schools around the smaller islands on the South of Guanaja, and big singles feed around the entire coast.  Be prepared though, these fish are not easy to catch and will provide any angler with a fantastic challenge!

Tarpon
Guanaja baby tarpon range from five to 40 pounds, and it is common (when they’re found) to sight cast to them on moving tides. Cruising the flats like they own them, skimming their reflective bodies from the deeps and back into the turtle grass, the sight of these monsters will make you look twice! Cast your fly, let it sink, and get ready for the ride of a lifetime!

Accommodations

The Lodge
Located in the peaceful fishing village of Mangrove Bight, Guanaja is truly paradise. With Five newly constructed oceanfront cabins complete with plush bedding, AC, and covered porches, Guanaja provides anglers with all the comforts of home.

Dining
The lodge cuisine is an infusion of Honduran dishes combined with fresh local ingredients. Guanaja specialties include fresh seafood cooked to perfection, tamales, carne asada and baleadas. Their kitchen prepares and cooks with fresh, local produce and supports sustainable fishing for fresh seafood. All of the produce and meat is sourced locally.

Faraway Cayes

The Promised Land
Located 160 miles east of Guanaja, Faraway Cayes is a small island absolutely teeming with bonefish and permit. With double digit bonefish and world record class permit swimming every which way, Faraway Cayes truly is the fly fishing promised land. Guanaja is lucky enough to have access to this island gem, and anglers can stay at our remote, yet comfortable, basecamp while experiencing the fishing of a lifetime!

The Fishing
These are not the endless ankle-deep flats of the Bahamas. But that topography presents a tradeoff most fly fishermen will take. Vast flats can mean hours and miles of poling or wading without any action. More circumscribed flats often concentrate the fish; this is true at the Faraway Cayes. The shallow turtle grass is full of permit, and lots of triggerfish. The sandy patches hold huge schools of bonefish.

Basecamp
Perhaps the most peaceful place on earth, basecamp consists of three Mountain Shelter Yurts which sit on the middle of the island, giving guests 360 degree views of the island and its surrounding flats.

Travel Details

Getting to Honduras
Anglers traveling to Guanaja should arrive in Roatan midday on the Saturday beginning their week of fishing. Several US airlines fly into Roatan from Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, and Miami. From there, a lodge representative will meet you and set up your transfer to Guanaja

Getting to Guanaja
From Roatan, you have two options in getting to the lodge:

1. Flight option: 20 min plane ride Saturday afternoon; organized by Fly Fish Guanaja. Once in Guanaja, a lodge representative will greet you at the Guanaja airport and transfer you via 20 min boat ride to the lodge.

2. Boat Option: Weather permitting we depart Saturday afternoon. Unfavorable weather guests will wait until early next morning to ride over as mornings are always calmer. We use the best boats and captains in the Bay Islands and the ride is a unique experience, traveling inside the reef along the east end of Roatan passing small villages and little keys along the way.
