St. Vrain Creek River Report

St. Vrain Creek River Report

5-9-2025

Flows are atill below historical average, but still rising. Fish are starting to move around more, so check pocket waters and smaller pools as well. These often recieve less fishing pressure as well. We have also noted that with the warmer water temps, fish have been holding in some faster water than in cooler watersheds. Hatches have been midges, BWO's, and A LOT of Caddis.

...

For Dries, use a Micro Chubby, High Viz Quill Midge, AR's BWO Emerger, Borrof's Midge, Smoke Jumper, Elk Hair Caddis, High Vis BWO, Foam Run Caddis, and a Hippy Stomper.

...

For nymphs, use a Hun Caddis Pupa, Lil Bit, Boroff's Homie, Juju Baetis, Rainbow Warrior, Rock Grinder, AR's Perdigon, Simple PTN, Zebra Midge, Jigged Leech, Aero Baetis, and Sweet Meat Caddis.

Fly Fishing the St. Vrain

The creek is full of opportunistic fish that are eager to take a dry fly, so take advantage of the great caddis, blue wing olive and terrestrial fishing. The midges that call the St. Vrain home are active all year and are always a safe bet come the colder months of the year. This is a great chance to get out and test some of those midge patterns that you have been drooling over all winter. The Fishing in the town of Lyons can be fantastic.
