Blue Horizon operates inside the protected waters of the South Water Caye Marine Reserve, in an area known worldwide as "Permit Alley." This is the epicenter of Caribbean flats fishing, attracting anglers from around the world to chase permit on some of the most productive flats in existence.

Permit Alley
The vast majority of anglers come to Southern Belize to pursue permit. Permit are plentiful and found on the pancake flats and outer cayes. You can expect shots at 5-20 pound permit throughout the week.

The Guides
Lincoln Westby and the guides he has trained himself have developed into some of the most knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and fun guides to fish with in Belize. Target Species

Permit (Trachinotus falcatus)
The primary target and what Blue Horizon is legendary for.

• Size Range: 5-20 pounds
• Habitat: Pancake flats and outer cayes in Permit Alley
• Opportunities: Plentiful shots daily

Bonefish (Albula vulpes)
Impressive numbers throughout the fishery.

• Size Range: 2-5 pounds (schools)
• Habitat: Flats near cayes and select reef flats
• Season: Year-round

Tarpon (Megalops atlanticus)
Present year-round with peak migration.

• Migration: Late April through August
• Habitat: Select channels and protected island lagoons
• Peak Season: Robust schools during migration in South Water Caye Marine Reserve

Blue Horizon Lodge

The newly remodeled and rebuilt Blue Horizon Lodge delivers a surprising level of sophistication for such a remote island location. The lodge sits on the exact same footprint that Lincoln Westby established his original lodge years ago; positioned to maximize time on the flats during the best tides.

Guest Cabanas
Five completely refurbished cabanas accommodate maximum 10 anglers:

• Two full-size beds per room
• Private bathroom with on-demand hot water showers
• Air conditioning standard (option for ocean breeze or controlled climate)
• Rod racks, shelving, and hangers for gear organization

Dining
The culinary program incorporates traditional Belizean “home cooking” with bold flair of modern cuisine. Meals are served family-style and plated, capitalizing on closeness to the ocean as the foundation of the menu.

Belize International Airport (BZE), Belize City

Arrival Requirements:

• Valid passport required
• Proof of return or onward ticket
• Arrive Belize City no later than 3:00pm for same-day Placencia connections

The Airport
Belize International Airport is a small airport with excellent signage to help you get through customs and transfer to in-country flights.

Transfer Options: Belize City to Placencia

Option 1: Muy'Ono Explorer (Ground Transfer)

• $150 USD roundtrip per person
• 3.5-hour tour throughout Belize
• Air-conditioned van with tour guide

Option 2: Commuter Flight

• 30-minute breathtaking flight down Belize coast

• Ground transfer from airstrip to marina (included)

Weekly Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival

• Fly to Belize City (BZE)
• Clear customs and immigration
• Transfer to Placencia via Muy'Ono Explorer or commuter flight
• Ground transfer to marina
• Boat transfer to Blue Horizon Lodge
• Settle into your cabana
• Welcome dinner
• Trip orientation with guides

Days 2-7 – Fishing Days

• Breakfast at lodge
• Depart for guided flats fishing in South Water Caye Marine Reserve
• Fish Permit Alley's pancake flats and outer cayes
• Target permit (5-20 lbs), bonefish (2-5 lbs), seasonal tarpon
• Lunch on the water
• Continue fishing through optimal tides
• Return to lodge
• Dinner featuring Belizean cuisine and fresh seafood

Day 8 – Departure

• Final breakfast
• Boat transfer to Placencia marina
• Ground transfer to airstrip
• Commuter flight or Muy'Ono Explorer to Belize City
• Connect to international homeward flights

Cancellation Policy

• At booking: 50% deposit due within 10 days
• 90 days before trip: Full payment due
• All cancellations: Must be received in writing

Refund/Transfer Schedule:

• 90+ days prior: 100% of deposit may be transferred to another date/angler or refunded minus 5% cancellation fee
• 45-90 days prior: 50% of package may be transferred to another date/angler or refunded minus 5% cancellation fee
• Less than 45 days: May not be transferred or refunded

No Refunds:

• Unused portions by guest's choice
• Trips cancelled/shortened due to weather, acts of nature, hurricanes, airline delays, strikes, or political unrest
