About the Fishing

Bonefishing at East End Lodge

Grand Bahama's unique geography creates exceptional bonefishing. The cool, deep waters surrounding the island produce bonefish significantly larger than those found in warmer Caribbean locations. These fish average 5-6 pounds, with double-digit bones encountered regularly; not occasionally, but daily.

The Flats
East End Lodge provides access to vast sand and turtle grass flats, mangrove-lined shorelines, and deep channels where trophy bones cruise and tail. The variety of water types ensures productive fishing regardless of wind, tide, or weather conditions.

The Bonefish
These are selective fish that require precise presentation. Long leaders (12-14 feet), small flies (#4-8), and accurate casts are essential. The reward? Watching a 7-pound bonefish materialize from nowhere, inspect your fly, and explode when it eats; then scream 100 yards of line off your reel.

Target Species

Bonefish (Albula vulpes)
The primary target and what East End is legendary for.

  • Size: Average 5-6 pounds, with 8-12 pound fish common and 10+ pounders regularly encountered
  • Behavior: Selective feeders requiring long leaders and delicate presentations
  • Techniques: Sight-fishing with shrimp and crab patterns on sand and grass flats

Permit (Trachinotus falcatus)
Bonus opportunities when conditions allow.

  • Size: 15-25 pounds average, with fish over 30 pounds possible
  • Behavior: Can be aggressive due to modest fishing pressure in the region

Techniques: Crab patterns presented to cruising or tailing fish

Lodging

East End Lodge

The lodge features five double-occupancy rooms, each with its own private bath. Accommodations are fully furnished with queen-sized beds, night tables, large dressers, air conditioning, reading lights, and ample closet space for luggage and gear.

  • The crushed coral courtyard with massive fire pit
  • The marina where skiffs await each morning
  • Tiki huts for afternoon shade
  • The ocean and docks

Main Lodge & Dining
The Main Lodge houses the dining room where breakfast buffets are served each morning and Bahamian-style dinners are enjoyed nightly. The common areas provide space for gear rigging, fly tying, and swapping stories with fellow anglers.

The Marina
Your 16-foot Dolphin Super Skiff sits just steps away each morning, equipped with:

  • 85HP Yamaha outboard motor
  • Push poles and poling platform
  • "U-bars" for comfortable leaning while poling
  • Rod storage
