The Salmonfly Hatch
One of the most unique aspects of fishing the Gunnison River is its prolific salmonfly hatch. Each year around the beginning to middle of June, massive bugs hatch in droves, bringing every single fish in the river to the surface. This hatch is truly a sight to behold and provides anglers with the best opportunity of the year to catch large trout on dry flies.

  • No refunds for weather, acts of God, or travel issues

The prolific salmonfly hatch typically occurs around the beginning to middle of June each year. Massive bugs hatch in droves, bringing every fish in the river to the surface. This provides the best opportunity of the year to catch large trout on dry flies and is truly a sight to behold.
1-day trips ($1,400/boat) are full-day float fishing with 6 am start and 3-4 pm end. 2-day trips ($3,400/boat) add riverside camping with one night and meals prepared by guides. 3-day trips ($4,200/boat) include two nights camping and maximum time exploring the fishery. All trips accommodate 2 people per boat with a dedicated guide.
The Gunnison Gorge features Class III-IV white water, combining fishing with rafting adventure. Rafting and safety equipment plus life jackets are provided. Guides are experienced in navigating the gorge while maximizing fishing opportunities.
Standard meeting point is Gunnison River Pleasure Park at 6:00am (also the takeout location). If lodging in Delta, CO, arrangements can be made for hotel pickup. If coming from Telluride area, meet in Olathe, CO at 7:00am (additional cost). Inform Gunnison River Expeditions of your travel plans in advance.
Multi-day trips include guided float fishing, riverside camping with tents provided, all food prepared by guides, kitchen gear, rafting and safety equipment, and life jackets. Not included: fishing gear rental (if needed), flies, fishing licenses, BLM fees, personal camping gear (sleeping bag/pad), and gratuities.
