About Ikari House

About Ikari House

Ikari House on Christmas Island (Kiritimati) is a destination that inspires adventure and serves as a mecca for anglers around the world. The fishing on Christmas Island is like no other saltwater destination on the planet, with nearly two dozen different species of fish to catch. Located 1,200 miles south of Honolulu and 120 miles north of the equator, Christmas Island has stable weather and fishing conditions year-round. With over 240 square miles of hard sand and coral pancake flats inside the lagoon, you'll never have to fish the same flat twice. Except for blue water fishing, all fishing on Christmas Island is done while wading the flats. Many of the named flats (Orvis, Paris Texas, Nine Mile, Y Site) are legendary and endless. Many others are called "pancake flats," as most are roundish in shape and seem to erupt off the bottom of the lagoon, making perfect reefs for fish and fishermen. Located in the small community of London, Ikari House is a single-level lodge overlooking the water and facing the prevailing ocean breezes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still need help?

Contact us
Bring at least $300-500 USD or Australian dollars in cash. You'll need $250 for the fishing license (payable at airport arrival), $20+ for departure tax, plus cash for gratuities and any incidentals. There's only one ATM on the island (ANZ Bank in London village) and no credit card facilities.
Fiji Airways operates the only service to Christmas Island (Kiritimati), with one flight per week departing Honolulu every Tuesday morning. This means you must arrive Honolulu by Monday at latest—Sunday arrival recommended to avoid missing the flight, which would require waiting a full week for the next departure.
Yes. Christmas Island's diversity makes multi-species days common. A typical day might include wade-fishing for bonefish in the morning, switching to GTs when they appear on the flats, and targeting triggerfish during optimal tide windows. With nearly two dozen species available, adaptability and multiple rigged rods are key.
You'll need an 11-12 weight rod specifically for large GTs that appear suddenly and require quick, accurate casts. A 10-11 weight handles small to medium GTs and schooling fish. Bring large arbor reels with exceptional drags and 300+ yards of backing—GTs make powerful runs. Baitfish patterns and large poppers are essential.
Hosted trips ($4,500) include an experienced FRA host who provides on-site guidance, fly selection advice, tactical coaching, and group coordination. Unhosted trips ($3,650) provide the same lodge services and guiding but without the FRA host. Both include lodging, meals, guided fishing, and transfers.
