Frequently Asked Questions

Peak season (October-June) offers optimal weather conditions, lower humidity, and historically more consistent fishing. Low season (July-September) can see afternoon rains and higher temperatures but still fishes well and represents significant savings. If your schedule allows October-June travel and budget supports it, peak season provides the most comfortable experience. If you're flexible on weather and want to save $700 per angler, low season still delivers excellent Grand Slam opportunities.
Each angler receives a private guide, meaning if you're traveling with a partner, you'll fish from separate boats with individual guides. This maximizes fishing time and shot opportunities since you're not alternating casts or waiting for your partner. The lodge pairs this luxury with resort amenities—after fishing separately all day, you reunite at the pool, bar, or Kai Restaurant to compare notes.
Grand Slam Lodge offers three daily transfers from Cancún Airport: 10am, 1pm, and 3pm. The 10am transfer requires an early international arrival but gets you to the lodge by mid-afternoon with time to settle and potentially fish from shore. The 1pm transfer works for most flight schedules and arrives before dinner. The 3pm transfer accommodates later flights but means arriving after dark. Coordinate your international flight to match one of these three windows—the lodge won't run custom transfers.
Ascension Bay offers one of the world's best shots at a Grand Slam due to the ultra-productive 1.3 million-acre fishery and exceptional guides. However, a Grand Slam requires landing all three species in one day; not just seeing them. Some anglers achieve it, many don't. The fishery gives you legitimate daily opportunities at all three species, which is rare. Focus on enjoying world-class fishing for each species rather than obsessing over the Slam, and if it happens, it's a bonus.
The resort-style amenities: ocean-view Jacuzzis in ground-floor villas, beach butler service delivering drinks to Bali beds, Kai Restaurant with cooked-to-order meals (no buffets, no set times), bar with swing seats, and contemporary villa interiors. You're paying for luxury accommodation with fishing access, not a bare-bones fishing camp. If you value high-end lodging and resort atmosphere after fishing, Grand Slam justifies the premium. If you just want a bed and good guiding, consider more budget-focused Ascension Bay lodges.
