Fishing Gear
Rods & Reels:
● 5-6 weight rod for New Zealand sight fishing
● High-quality reel with smooth drag
● Extra spools
● Floating line (dull colors preferred for sight fishing)
● Long leaders (12-15 feet)
● Fine tippet (5X-7X fluorocarbon)
Flies:
Dry Flies:
● Parachute Adams, Royal Wulff, Stimulators (sizes 10-16)
● Terrestrials (hoppers, beetles) (sizes 10-14)
Nymphs:
● Pheasant Tails, Hare's Ears (sizes 12-18)
● Stonefly nymphs
● Caddis pupae
Streamers:
● Woolly Buggers, Muddler Minnows (sizes 6-10)
Wading Gear - CRITICAL CLEANING REQUIRED:
● Breathable chest waders (must be absolutely dry and spotless)
● Wading boots with felt or rubber soles (must have NO mud, grass, or material)
● Wading belt
● Wading staff (recommended)
BEFORE DEPARTURE: Clean all wading gear thoroughly—New Zealand Customs is very strict
Clothing for New Zealand Summer (October–April)
Layers:

● Fleece or light jacket (mornings/evenings can be cool)
● Lightweight rain jacket
● Quick-dry pants or shorts
● Warm socks
Sun Protection:
● Wide-brim hat or cap
● Buff or neck gaiter
● Polarized sunglasses (absolutely critical for sight fishing)
● Sunglasses retainer
● Sunscreen SPF 30+
● Lip balm with SPF
Personal Items
Documents:
● Valid passport
● New Zealand fishing license (purchase upon arrival)
● Credit card for incidentals and gratuities
