The Water

Vast sand and turtle-grass flats create ideal permit habitat. Crystal-clear water allows for sight-fishing, with encounters ranging from tailing schools to cruising singles and doubles. Surrounding mangrove systems and channels hold resident tarpon and snook year-round.

The Fishing

Days blend technical permit presentations with variety. Mornings focus on permit during optimal light and tide windows. Afternoons may shift toward bonefish numbers, backcountry tarpon, or snook along mangrove edges. Mixed-species days are common, and Grand Slams are realistic depending on conditions.

The fishery rewards accurate casting and thoughtful approaches. Health and low pressure make it approachable for anglers new to saltwater fly fishing, especially with experienced guides who understand positioning.

Cancun International Airport (CUN), Cancun, Mexico

Direct flights to Cancun from many US cities including Dallas, Houston, Miami, Denver, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and others.

Ground Transfer

Ground transfers from Cancun to Punta Herrero included in package.

Transfer Route:

● Cancun Airport to Tulum: Approximately 1.5 hours
● Tulum to Punta Herrero: Additional 2-3 hours through Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve
● Total transfer time: Approximately 4-4.5 hours

The journey passes through the reserve's lush jungle and mangrove systems, providing glimpse of the pristine ecosystem you'll be fishing.

Documentation

US citizens need valid passport for travel to Mexico. Tourist visas provided upon arrival.

Lodging Before/After

Hotel nights before or after lodge stay not included. Many anglers overnight in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or Tulum before transfer to Punta Herrero.

Saturday – Arrival Day

● Welcome dinner and trip orientation

Sunday–Friday – Fishing Days

● Early breakfast prepared by chef
● Short boat ride to Espíritu Santo Bay flats (minutes from lodge)
● Full day guided fishing with 2:1 guide-to-angler rotation
● Mornings focus on permit during optimal light and tides
● Afternoons may target bonefish, tarpon, snook based on conditions
● Lunch on the boat
● Return to lodge late afternoon
● Freshen up in air-conditioned room
● Family-style dinner featuring fresh seafood and regional cuisine
● Evening at leisure (rig rods, share stories, prepare for next day)

Saturday – Departure Day

● Breakfast at lodge
● Ground transfer from Punta Herrero to Cancun Airport (4-4.5 hours)

50% deposit of accommodation and guiding tariff required to secure booking. Visa, MasterCard, and American Express accepted. Credit card payments incur 3% transaction fee.

Cancellation Policy

● Within 90 days of arrival: 25% of accommodation & guiding
● Within 60 days of arrival: 50%
● Within 45 days of arrival: 75%
● Within 30 days of arrival: 100%

If travel prevented due to official government restrictions related to COVID-19, all payments credited toward future Front Range Anglers trip. Credits valid for 24 months.
